BOOK DESIGN — Murder on the Orientexpress

Create a book cover concept for Agatha Christie’s famous books “Murder on the Orientexpress”, “And then there were one” & “Murder of Roger Ackroyd

Tracie Lau (AD — solo work)

Art director assignment:

The concept is built on the recurring detective, Hercule Poirot & Christie’s fascinating with hidden meanings and decoding.

The books would be released as a collector’s item, where all three books would be sold together, never separately. A clear book jacket would be cover all three books when their side by side one another. Creating the allusion that Hercule Poirot (which is spelled out when drawing lines between the dots) is always on the case.

Design is inspired by anti-trends. The less the better?

The rebellious answer to maximalism and perfectionism? — minimalistic and subtle design. Sticking out in the bookshelf by not having pops of color or extravagant fonts. In a sea of color, the plain sticks out.

In addition to the book designs, I created merchandise to be sold with the collection.
